Just at the beginning of the month, British director Christopher Nolan (53) had the honor of receiving his first Oscars - thanks to his drama "Oppenheimer" about the "father of the atomic bomb," Robert Oppenheimer (Cillian Murphy, 47). Now, the filmmaker awaits the next prestigious accolade: As reported by the BBC, Nolan has been chosen to be knighted, most likely by King Charles III (75), and thus to henceforth bear the title Sir.s
But Nolan is not the only one to receive this honor. His wife, Emma Thomas (52), who has served as a producer on many of his successful films, will also receive the same distinction. Following the ceremony, she will be entitled to be called Dame Emma Thomas. Both spouses will be awarded knighthood for their contributions to the film industry, according to a statement from the government quoted by the BBC.
A Dream Team for Decades
Together, they won the Oscar for "Best Picture" at the 96th Academy Awards thanks to "Oppenheimer." Nolan had also been honored shortly before for "Best Director," and in total, the biopic garnered seven of the coveted gold statues.
Thomas had also served as a producer on Nolan's "Tenet," "Dunkirk," "Interstellar," "Memento," "The Prestige," and "The Dark Knight" trilogy. They were also jointly nominated for an Oscar in the "Best Picture" category for the sci-fi thriller "Inception" and the war drama "Dunkirk," although they didn't win.
So, the success story of the duo that has lasted for decades continues unabated. Nolan and Thomas met and fell in love while students at the University of London. They tied the knot in 1997. The couple now resides in Los Angeles and has four children together.
