Born and raised in Nairobi, Kenya, Taskin Butt has been painting since she can remember. Growing up in a place like Africa, a land full of colour, vast open landscape and scenic coastal areas has certainly contributed to her deep passion. Some of her recent collection is observational and inspired by memories in England, Scotland and UAE and also the place she grew up, Kenya. Taskin works accross various mediums such as oils, acrylic, mixed media and also pen/ink. Her current and recent artworks range from city landscapes to abstract works. In the past she has painted floral designs, still life and digital art. She derives her inspiration to paint from everyday life and the beauty, diversity and grace of nature around her particularly those natural subjects that play with light for example, flowers, sky and water. Reflections appear throughout many of her works and speak to her of the glowing and sparkling nature of the free spirit and natural life. Taskin continues to develop her own distinct painting approach visible through the simplicity in her compositions and vibrant colours she uses. Her work celebrate her love for nature and at the same time also express her inner experiences through paintings that evoke a sense of serenity, spirituality and freedom.
