There is a struggle, at times, to find the right words to express pain or grief. We, as flawed creatures, bottle negative emotions under the guise of "putting on a brave face" or trying to seem "strong." When the artist learned that the closest member of her family only had weeks left to live, it was difficult. When she learned not days after that that another member of her family was diagnosed with terminal cancer, it was earth shattering. With no words to express that grief, and no one she felt she could to turn to for support, she imagined all of that pent up frustration and helplessness exploding out of her. Unable to sleep, she began to draw fiercely through the night. All of the exploding energy manifested into a giant pair of fairy wings, transforming into something powerful and infallible. In the next couple of years, six more friends and family members would pass on, and this image became the artist's totem of sorts. Recently revised to this newest rendering of conte, charcoal, and graphite, it is an image the artist goes to when strength and courage are needed most.

From early childhood Aimee has heard the words "you have to be an artist when you grow up," simply due to her ability to "color inside the lines." But as Aimee grew she discovered that sometimes art is about breaking those borders. Art is about more than being a living breathing copy machine.
