Mary Kaye Atchison has a background in art and design. She first studied art history at Chapman University and later went back to school to study interior design. She experimented with many different media before falling in love with paper. Paper is both fragile and amazingly strong, impermanent yet lasting for centuries, one dimensional yet evoking virtual dimension and space. You can reveal image by cutting away or by building up. Mary loves paper because it can be moved around, cut and built up.
Deeply committed to the preservation of the amazingly diverse life on planet Earth, Mary's art is full of the forms of nature, animals, birds and the secret places of jungle and marsh.
Mary also has an interest in picture books for children. Wile not published yet, she is working on illustrating her second book.
