The Dishonour Some say the soul of samurai lies in his two main weapons, his swords (collectively called "daisho", literally meaning "big and little") - the larger sword, the katana, and the smaller sword, the wakizashi. The majority of samurai were bound by an unwritten code of honour (bushido - "the way of the warrior") and were expected to set an example for those below them. A distinguished part of their code is seppuku or hara kiri (involving the use of the wakizashi), which allowed an attainted samurai to redeem his honour by passing into death.
