"Why should I do this, I was actually a little depressed"
LG Twins hitting coach Lee Ho-joon opened up about his struggles.
The coach received the Professional Leader Award at the 2023 Nutriday Ilgoo Award Ceremony held at Versailles Hall on the third floor of Hotel Rivera in Seoul on Aug. 8. By actively communicating with his players, Lee led the LG batting lineup to the top of the league in batting average (0.279), on-base percentage (0.361), and slugging percentage (0.394).
"I want to win another championship next year and double my enjoyment of what I didn't enjoy this year," Lee said of his unexpected award.
Speaking to reporters after the ceremony, Lee admitted that he had been suffering from depression and avoiding people. 안전토토사이트
In November, when fall baseball was in full swing, there were rumors that he was being considered for the SSG Landers head coach position. Although Lee denied the rumors, he had a hard time dealing with the rumors for a while.
"Honestly, it's unfair. (LG) won the unified championship for the first time in 29 years and everyone was enjoying it, but I wasn't enjoying it. I was avoiding the streets because people were saying, "Why do I have to do this." I was actually a little depressed. Even though I won, I didn't come out of the house for about a week and thought about various things," he said.
"Today, I thought, 'I have to go out. Don't avoid it, I'm calm now, so let's go,'" he said.
Finally, he said, "It's a shame that I didn't enjoy the championship after 29 years. If we win the championship next year, I'll make up for what I didn't enjoy this year by overdoing it and passing out on the baseball field," he vowed.
