Badminton player Ahn Se-young (21-Samsung Life Insurance), who moved the nation by winning a gold medal at the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games with a torn knee tendon, has opened up about her injury status and future plans.
Ahn received the Fighting Spirit Award at the "Thank you, TEAM KOREA" event, which was held at the Lotte Hotel in Jamsil, Seoul, on Tuesday to encourage the Korean athletes for the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games.
Speaking for the first time since the Asian Games, Ahn showed a bright side, saying, "I focused on rehabilitation after my injury," and "I had time to fully recharge my body."
"I'm feeling a lot better now, and I have more strength," he said, adding, "I'm thinking of competing in international competitions starting in Japan in mid-November." "My body is actually better than before," he told SBS, adding that he is now back to 5 to 60 percent of his best form. 안전토토사이트
Ahn plans to compete at the Kumamoto Masters in two weeks' time.
"My body comes first, so I'm trying not to think about it," she said, adding, "When I saw those results, I realized that my path against Chen Yufei will be harder in the future, so I'm trying to prepare more slowly."
Ahn won the team and women's singles titles at the Asian Games badminton, which concluded earlier this month. She was diagnosed with a torn knee tendon after her match and went into rehabilitation, especially in the singles final on the final day of the Games. In the meantime, she was bombarded with broadcast and commercial offers, but she politely declined.
"I'm really grateful that so many people were interested in me and asked for interviews and commercials," Ahn said, "but I still have a lot of matches left, and I haven't fulfilled my dreams yet. It's a bit overwhelming to do both right now," she confessed.
"I'm sorry, but I focused on improving my body first," he said, adding, "I have a lot to show as an athlete, so I'm just going to focus on the badminton I'm playing now."
"I won the Asian Games, but I don't have an Olympic medal," he said, adding, "I think I need to work harder for the Olympics." He shared his goals for the future.
When asked if he would appear in commercials, broadcasts, etc. if he wins a gold medal at Paris 2024, he laughed and said, "If a lot of people want it and I can afford it, I will do it," but added, "It's a big if."
Paris is still about nine months away. "The Olympic race is still going on," Ahn said. "I've been running hard so far and saw good results at the Asian Games," she said, adding, "If I really do my best every day, I think I can finish well enough for the Olympics.
The event was organized by the Korean Olympic Committee (KOC) to recognize the athletes who finished third overall at the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games with 42 gold, 59 silver and 89 bronze medals. The event was attended by 350 people, including members of the Hangzhou Asian Games team, medalists, President Lee Ki-heung and Choi Yun.
