Tyre Nichols, a 29-year-old father, was pummeled by Memphis police in a video that will be released later. The city is preparing for protests. What do we know about the contents of it, then?
The few people who have already viewed video of Mr. Nichols' tragic interaction with police in the US city of Memphis, Tennessee, have described it as "sickening" and "appalling," among other things.
Days after being stopped for allegedly reckless driving and tussling with five officers, who have subsequently lost their jobs and been charged with his murder, he passed away in the hospital.
On the bodycam video of the arrest, which will be released on Friday, Mr. Nichols can be heard pleading with his mother.
The family, their legal team, and a few officials are among the few who have seen it.
The father-of-one was shown in the video, according to Antonio Romanucci, a lawyer representing the Nichols family, as being treated like a "human piata."
He claimed that the three-minute thrashing of the little kid during the arrest "was an unvarnished, unashamed, non-stop beating."
Starting around 18:00 local time, four portions of the film will be made available (00:00 GMT).
The whole amount of video is estimated to be around an hour, with a portion of that time showing Mr. Nichols talking with the five officers who are charged with his murder. Redactions will be made to make those who are not police or city employees anonymous.
Several US media outlets have posted an audio file of the police radio that provides some insight into the altercation that occurred.
Although there are little information available at this time, it is hoped that the film will paint a clear picture of the series of events that finally resulted in Mr. Nichols' death.
The events on the night of January 7 that the video is anticipated to show are as follows:
An counsel for the family claimed that Mr. Nichols, a black man, was stopped by five officers who are also black while he was returning home after photographing a sunset in a nearby park. He was pulled over for alleged careless driving at which point the first altercation started.
Officers pursued Mr. Nichols on foot after the first altercation and attempted to arrest him.
Later, Mr. Nichols complained of having trouble breathing. He was brought to the hospital, where his condition was listed as critical.
On January 10, officials stated that Mr. Nichols "succumbed to his injuries," but they gave no other information. No official cause of death has been revealed to date.
Director of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation David Rausch expressed his "sickness" at what he had witnessed during a different press conference.
The first black woman to hold the position of police chief in Memphis, Cerelyn Davis, recalls hearing Mr. Nichols "cry out for his mother" on the video.
She told CNN that "the disrespect for humanity...what that's truly rips at your emotions."
The five cops are being held on the same allegations, including official oppression, official misconduct, aggravated kidnapping, and second-degree murder.
Last week, they were let go from their positions with the Memphis Police Department.
Two of the ex-officers' attorneys stated that their clients intended to contest the allegations.
One of the men's attorneys claimed that "no one out there that night intended for Tyre Nichols to die." He claimed that he had not seen the video.
