Harry Meyers-Shyer hasn't written or directed a feature film (or anything else) since the very bland 2017 film Home Again (Sing 2) starring Reese Witherspoon. When their new film cast Michael Keaton (Birdman) and Mila Kunis (Black Swan) and looked like another family drama about, in this case, single (or semi-single) parents, it certainly looked like another mediocre drama that just passes by and passes the audience's time. But Goodrich 2024 Theflixtor goes far beyond that, it's truly unexpected. This is partly due to the great casting and chemistry between Keaton and Kunis, and partly due to the very well-written script written by Meyers-Shyer, a seemingly very personal script that evokes a strong visceral response from the audience.
The film focuses on Andy Goodrich (Michael Keaton), who receives a call from his much younger wife, Naomi (Laura Benanti), who tells him she has entered a 90-day rehabilitation clinic. At first, he is completely shocked by this realization, but gradually becomes more and more upset by the fact that he had no idea, firstly, that his wife was suffering, and secondly, that it was due to drugs and not alcoholism, and so he casually blames his wife. . Goodrich (as he is called in the film) is now single-handedly raising his 9-year-old twins Billy (Vivienne Lyra Blair) and Moses (Jacob Kopela), but when he becomes a father for the second time, he suddenly finds himself doing his own thing. He has no idea what to do with his kids, how to take care of them, and he can't get along.
As he does his best to raise his kids and run his art gallery (and try to put on a major exhibition at the same time), he has to take a good look at his life and figure out what is most important to him. Goodrich enlists her help, as his eldest daughter Grace (Mila Kunis) is pregnant and wants to reunite with her. At first, Grace is incredibly reserved due to her issues with her father (he was always concerned with his work and never cared about being a father when she was growing up) and tries to help him become the father he thought he was meant to be and the one he now wants to be. It's not easy to turn your parents into the parents you always wanted them to be, but the way Meyers-Shyer crafts this story is truly incredible, soulful, moving, and funny. Goodrich pulls off a surprising success that no one expected. Watch the movie on Theflixtor.
