Finally Fall!

In Florida, the heat and humidity of summer can be overwhelming at times. The arrival of September signals summer's end and a look forward toward what I call "sweater weather". Though the daily high temperatures here still hover around the 90 degree mark, the shadows are beginning to lengthen a bit. How I long to throw open the windows and let fresh air inside my home!
I miss seeing the changing hues of a northern Fall landscape. During this time of the year, I am inspired to create pieces which reflect my childhood memories of autumn in New England--vistas heavily accented with vibrant oranges, reds and gold. For projects such as these, I prefer heavier mediums like acrylic paint, chalk and graphite because of their opacity and visual texture. Some of my most recent Fall paintings have been posted for your perusal. With each painting I complete, I smile at the thought of soon being able to grab my favorite sweater and take long walks amongst the trees.
What about you? Do you have a favorite Fall ritual that you enjoy? Perhaps, like me, you like to visit a local coffee house for pumpkin- spiced coffee and conversation with friends. Maybe you have a favorite recipe that you only pull out when the temperatures start to dip (apple pie or s'mores anyone?). Write to me and tell me about what autumn is like where you live.
Smiles to you,
Lori
