5 Benefits of Using Handcrafted Guitar Picks

Guitar picks are an essential tool for most guitarists and an often overlooked piece of gear for many.
This small item can make a world of difference to those who have the consideration to look into uncharted territories.
I'm talking about the new brands of handmade guitar picks that are cropping up all around the world over the past few years.

One of those brands who pioneered the category is Iron Age Guitar Accessories who's been making guitarpicks "by hand" since 2015.
I say this because they actually start making their guitar picks using a cnc machine using complicated & advanced software & tools to design, engrave, and cut the guitar picks. This helps to get every pick precisely the same before being hand-finished to perfection.
This is besides the point however,
what I really want to talk about is the benefits of using such a plectrum;
One that is much thicker, more eccentric, and expensive to say the least.

Here's 5 reasons why you should consider trying a handcrafted pick.

  1. They are easier to hold because they are considerably thicker. This helps with grip but also aids people who have a hard time holding onto a pick due to sweating or carpal tunnel.
  2. There is more grip in many cases because the picks can be finished with a heavy gritty texture instead of being smooth like most traditional picks. Also grip holes & other textures can be added.
  3. Playability is there although you might not think otherwise. A good handmade pick will have a carefully sculpted bevel that allows for smooth playing that doesn't get stuck in the strings.
  4. They make a great gift & in many cases can be customizable with personalized engravings. Good for occassions such as wedding gifts, birthdays, or even to a guitar teacher.
  5. Handcrafted picks are unique & an expression of individualy. Who wants to use the same old same old that everyone has? If you want to personalize your own playing experience and stand out from the crowd in your own way, this is one way to do it.

    That's all for now, just wanted to put some thoughts on paper about this new guitar pick thing going around lately. I've tried them & now have over a dozen collectibale items that look forward to using in my compositions. Give them a try before you know them but make sure you go with a reputable company.
