After Adobe released the new Creative Cloud, many people wondered about how this is going to affect their work, so this article takes a look into this issue. (Is Adobe Creative Cloud going to kill freelancing?
Something for freelancers to think about.Do you want your creative output stored on Adobe's cloud and be charged a monthly fee to use their iconic creative software? I think if anything the CC(creative cloud) makes it easier to freelance as a designer, coder or photographer.Adobe has given the creative community a way to manage their software costs including updates and new features in one location at a fixed price that right now is very reasonable. You can store your work and access it from practically anywhere. This make working with clients a lot easier.Presentations and projects can be shown anytime and colaboration with other creatives is much simpler with the cloud. The only issue I have is how long will the price stay affordable and how soon will a competitor arise?
Old school software like Pagemaker and Quark held sway at the beginning of the Desk Top Publishing Era,no one at the time could forsee the rise of InDesign,Photoshop or Illustrator.
I think there will be more innovation to give Adobe a run for their money with creative software for design and creative professionals. The open source community has quite a few programs that rival Adobe's products. The only problem is tht their file formats are not as readily used in the printing industry as Adobe's.Sure there are work arounds to get projects done, but as Adobe's monopoly grows they are the standard for the industry.Until then the CC is a good situation for now!
