[Asian Games] Korean B-Boys Kim Hong-yeol and Kim Heon-woo Advance to the Quarterfinals with a Breaking Performance for the First Time

Korea's representative b-boys, aiming to become breaking 'invitational champions' at the Hangzhou Asian Games, succeeded in advancing to the quarterfinals.

Kim Hong-yeol (Hong10) and Kim Heon-woo (Wing) safely passed the group stage of the round of 16 of the competition held at the Archer Canal Sports Park Gymnasium in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China on the afternoon of the 6th and settled in the quarterfinals.

Unlike the preliminaries that were previously held in a 'cypher' format, the focus of the round of 16 was a traditional '1-on-1 breaking match'.

Each group will face three opposing players three times in a round-zero format, and the top two players with the most round wins and judges' votes will receive a ticket to the quarterfinals.

Kim Hong-yeol, who was in Group A, lost to China's Qi Xiangyu (Lithe-ing) in his first match with a round score of 0-2 (4-5 2-7).

The judges' choice was focused on Qi Xiangyu, who showed off more difficult rotation techniques, than Kim Hong-yeol, who used freezes (a technique that stops the body momentarily) several times.

As a veteran, Kim Hong-yeol overwhelmingly defeated his opponent in the second and third games and took second place in the group after Qi Xiang-yu, who won all three games.

Kim Hong-yeol, who won the match against Thailand's Chenabud Chantrat (Cheno) with a round score of 2-0 (9-0 9-0), drew cheers from the audience by maintaining the freeze for more than two seconds during his performance.

Kim Hong-yeol also won 2-0 (9-0 9-0) in the final group stage match against Uzbekistan's Jamal Asadullayev.

Kim Heon-woo ranked first in Group B and advanced to the quarterfinals.

From the first match against Taiwan's Quake, he took advantage of his relatively tall height (180 cm) and used freezes throughout his performance to highlight his cool movements, leading to a 2-0 victory (7-2 8-1).

Kim Heon-woo, who defeated Kanthapon Rodsaalt (T flow) in the second match 2-0 (9-0 8-1), also defeated Talgrat Sherov of Uzbekistan 2-0 (9-0 9-0).

The quarterfinals will be held at the same location on the 7th from 7 PM, Korean time.

In addition to Korean players, championship candidates from other countries are also on track.

Shigeyuki Nakarai (Shigekix, Japan) and Amir Zakirov (Amir, Kazakhstan) also advanced to the quarterfinals as first place in their group with three wins in Groups C and D.

Breaking was introduced for the first time in the
Asian Games through this competition.

If you win a gold medal, you will become the first champion.
