ROME – Odysseus/Ulysseus lands on the shores of his home island of Ithaca after 20 years of fighting and returning from the Trojan War. Marked by his experiences, he is unrecognizable compared to the powerful warrior king he left 20 years ago. His wife Penelope is now a prisoner in her own home, pursued by many suitors who are choosing a new husband for the throne. Odysseus and Penelope's son Telemachus faces death at the hands of those who see him as a threat to their ambitions. Watch The Return movie on Afdah movies.
Odysseus is forced to confront his past to save his family and reclaim what he lost. So begins The Return, directed by Uberto Pasolini and starring Ralph Fiennes, Juliette Binoche, Charlie Plummer, Marwan Kenzari and Claudio Santamaria. The film is based on Homer's immortal work from the 8th century BC.

The film, which was shown in the Grand Public section of the Rome Film Festival and will soon be released in cinemas by 01 Distribution, is a fascinating reinterpretation of the Odyssey. There are no journeys, no monsters and no gods in Pasolini's work. A lonely man returning wearily to his home after years away, a wife who hasn't seen her husband for years, and an adult son who has never known his father: this strips the epic story of its blockbuster qualities, which Pasolini revisits in the imagery of his film adaptation and the themes he treats in a dry, intimate format. The Return tells of a family separated by distance, time and war, and of a love made of unshakable faith and hope that is unfazed by impossible waits.
Because it's impossible. In fact, Odysseus' return to his homeland does not fill the void left by his years of absence, but brings only trauma, transformation, conflict, expectations and insurmountable mountain pain that could only be in the distant past. But Odysseus returns home, defeats his enemies, regains control, rescues Penelope and gives Telemachus the opportunity to face his terrible father of myth. A living legend living within a legend that until now could only live in memory and rumor. The film "The Return" combines classical style with epic power, emotion and realism, finding its narrative foundation in the revelation of Odysseus, which flows swiftly and fluidly in the flow of the images. And his presence, someone and nothing at the same time, allows us to play with intuition and suggestions.
