Spellbound Review: Enchanting But The Songs Lack Magic

Oh, it's so fun to watch a movie whose creators are not afraid of color! And if "too colorful" sounds like a nightmare to you, stay away from the 2024 animated film "I'm Fighting for You".
Actress Rachel Zegler plays Princess Elian, who is almost 15 years old, but she has already been through a lot. , more than a teenager can handle - she has to rule the entire kingdom because her parents are monsters. In the true sense of the word. King Solon (Javier Bardem) and Queen Ellesmere (Nicole Kidman) are cursed during a trip to the forest and turn into huge, destructive and dangerous beasts. Princess Elian must find a way to turn them back into humans, or they will remain monsters forever!
The first half of "I'm Fighting for You" is very cute and very fun. Princess Elion spends all her time and energy dealing with her chaotic monster parents. Luckily, she has her loyal ministers, Nazara and Borinar (John Lithgow), at her side. Eventually, Elian seeks advice from the oracles of the moon and sun, Runo and Sunny (Nathan), who suggest he take his parents to a magical lake. What's the catch? The journey takes them through a dark and dangerous forest. And with the king and queen constantly quarreling in the form of hybrid animals, it's no child's play.

Skydance Animation's animation, like its predecessor "Luck," is very bright, vibrant, and full of fascinating fantasy creatures. "I'll Fight for You" begins with Elian riding an adorable magical creature that is a fluffy mix of a tiger, a cat, and an owl, complete with wings. And what I liked about Princess Elian is that, unlike most Disney princesses, she wears trousers and riding boots instead of an impractical dress. In one scene, she even wears pants that seem to be inspired by Indian dhoti pants.
One of the weakest points of Spellbound is the music. Apart from the opening track, which is entertaining thanks to Elion's quirky interpretation of "Monster Parents," the rest of the songs seem repetitive and unimaginative. For a musical, this is a clear flaw. The creators should have put more effort into creating memorable songs. Unlike Encanto, Frozen, and other popular animated films, Spellbound does not have a single standout song that leaves a lasting impression.
The second half of Spellbound drags on quite a bit, with an unnecessary sequence in which Princess Elion saves helpless creatures in a dark forest to prove her brave spirit. Seriously, she's ruled an entire kingdom for a year and taken care of her parents like a dedicated pet owner. We didn't need any extra scenes to know she has a heart of gold. Elian's charm is evident in the first few frames of the movie. Watch this movie on Flixtor Movies.
