Suwon FC drew 1-1 at home against Jeju United to finish the regular season in 11th place and set up a relegation playoff with Busan I-Park.

Suwon FC drew 1-1 at home against Jeju United in the final match of the 38th round of the Hana WonQ K League 1 2023 at Suwon Sports Complex in Suwon, Gyeonggi-do, at 2 p.m. on April 2.

With 32 points through 37 rounds, Suwon FC is tied for 11th place with Suwon Samsung but ahead on goal difference. The result of the match, as well as the result of the match between Suwon Samsung and Gangwon FC (33 points) at the same time, will determine whether Suwon FC will be automatically relegated to 12th place or go to the relegation playoffs in 10th or 11th place.

Jeju took the lead in the fifth minute of the first half. After a 2-on-1 pass between Jeju's Yuri Jonatan and Jeon Sung-jin on the left side, Jeon's shot from inside the box was initially blocked by Suwon FC goalkeeper Labor Gun, but Jeju midfielder Kim Gun-woong, who caught the rebound ball, folded it up and hit a left-footed shot that deflected off Jung Jae-yong and crossed the Suwon FC goal line. A devastating goal for Suwon FC. For Kim Geon-woong, it was a breakthrough goal for his hometown team, where he spent three years from 2020 to last year.

Coach Kim Do-gyun told the media before the game that he would only utilize the U-22 Jang Jae-woong-Kim Do-yoon card for 5-10 minutes, and immediately after the goal, he brought on Lee Seung-woo and Lopez in an effort to catch up. In the 27th minute, Suwon FC had the first chance of the game when Lee Seung-woo sent in a cross from the left side of the box that Lopez dropped inside the box, and Lopez tried to connect with the ball right in front of the goal, but he fumbled and missed the chance.

Suwon FC had a chance to equalize on the counterattack in the 32nd minute when Lee Seung-woo's left-footed cross from the left was met by Yoon Beom-garam's right-footed shot from the right side of the box, but Jeju goalkeeper Kim Dong-joon made the save. Jeju tried to stifle Suwon's momentum in the 36th minute by making three substitutions - Seo Jin-soo, Lee Ki-hyuk, and Jonathan Ling - minus Kim Gun-woong and U-22 players Jeon Sung-jin and Kwon Soon-ho. 토토사이트

In the first minute of first-half stoppage time, Suwon missed a golden opportunity to equalize. A long free kick from the right side was sent into the box, and defender Jackson, who had been involved in the offense, headed it into the box, where Lee Seung-woo headed it in front of the goal, but Jeju goalkeeper Kim Dong-joon made a great save, much to the frustration of the Suwon FC home fans.

In the first half, Jeju had all four of their shots on target, while Suwon FC had seven shots but only three on target, giving them a 47% shot share, almost identical to Jeju's 53%.

After conceding in the fifth minute of the first half, Suwon FC finally equalized in the fifth minute of the second half. From a central free kick opportunity about 25 meters from goal, Lee Young-jae scored an exquisite left-footed free kick equalizer. The kick sailed just over the defense and goalkeeper Kim Dong-joon, who was making a good save, had no choice but to take it.

Jeju came close in the 13th minute when Ahn Tae-hyun's right-footed cross from the right side was met with a straightforward volley by forward Hayes, but it sailed just wide of the Suwon FC goal. In the 22nd minute, Seo Jin-soo fired a right-footed shot in front of the goal in the midst of a scramble, but it was blocked and Jeju missed another scoring chance.

In the 24th minute, Suwon FC took advantage of Jeju's mistake in turning a pass in their defense, and Lee Seung-woo played a through ball to Lee Young-jae, who had a one-on-one chance with the keeper in the box, but his left-footed shot was blocked by Kim Dong-joon.

Jeju pulled Kim Dong-joon in the 32nd minute to give goalkeeper Kim Hyung-geun, who played for Seoul Eland until last year, a chance to make his Jeju debut in the final match of the season.

Both teams battled back and forth until the final minutes of the match, and in the 43rd minute, Jeju's Jonathan Ling's left-footed free kick from about 25 meters from goal hit the crossbar to settle for a 1-1 draw without further scoring. With the result, Suwon FC finishes the regular season in 11th place with 33 points and a goal difference of 44, earning them a spot in the relegation playoffs against Busan I-Park, who finished second in K League 2.

The first leg of the relegation playoff between Suwon FC and Busan will be held on June 6 in Busan and the second leg on June 9 in Suwon. The match between Suwon Samsung and Gangwon FC ended in a 0-0 draw, with Suwon Samsung tied with Suwon FC on 33 points but losing on goal difference (Suwon FC 44, Suwon Samsung 35) and automatically relegated to the bottom of the table. Tenth-placed Gangwon FC will play the winner of the K League 2 playoff between Gimpo FC and Gyeongnam FC on the 6th and 9th, starting at 4:30pm.
