Health Minister Vlastimil Válek (TOP 09) told journalists before the cabinet meeting that covid is still one of the most serious viral diseases in the world and will always be here. "But we know how to diagnose it, how to treat it, how to protect ourselves," he explained the change. According to him, the disease will be a standard serious fatal disease, which will be approached normally, after the abolition of mandatory isolations.

Spreading a contagious human disease is a crime for which the Criminal Code imposes a minimum sentence of six months to three years in prison. For example, cholera, plague, AIDS, sexually transmitted diseases, salmonellosis, SARS, diphtheria or tuberculosis will remain on the government's list.

The Ministry of Health wants to put the treatment of covid-19 back in the hands of doctors. They have to decide whether to send an infected person into isolation according to the degree of risk - specifically according to the patient's health, his surroundings or the work performed.

The conditions of isolation and quarantine have changed over the three years of the covid-19 pandemic. The first patients were strictly isolated in hospitals. At first, isolation was for fourteen days, and all contacts of the infected were ordered to quarantine. It was canceled about a year ago.
