janelia jones 3 Misconceptions About Yoga That Keep You From Achieving Its Benefits
Back To Blogs List

Do you know a few rounds of Sun Salutation in the morning can prepare your body and mind for the day? Regular practice improves muscle strength, tones the body, maintains a balanced metabolism, reduces weight, protects from injury, elevates athletic performance, and more. Yet, many hold themselves back when it comes to enrolling in classes at a nearby well-known yoga studio in Arlington or elsewhere. Perhaps you also do the same because of misconceptions about yoga. If so, it’s high time to clear the clouds of doubt and change your mind. Read on:

Only Flexible People Can Perform Poses

Pictures of yogis in gravity-defying postures make people believe yoga is not meant for people who aren’t flexible enough. But little do they realize that it takes years of practice, even for yoga teachers and gurus, to achieve that level of flexibility and perform each pose perfectly. Regardless of your flexibility, you can join classes and practice every day. Stretching and holding poses improve flexibility and range of motion over time.

Yoga Is Not For Older Adults

You can start practicing and performing yoga at any age; there is no age limit. Although a person turning 60 may not enjoy Power or Hot yoga, there are many styles, from Hatha to Aerial yoga, to choose from, depending on the physical and mental needs. Whether you are in your 20s or 50s, start your practice at a nearby yoga school in TX to achieve its benefits rather than assuming the ship has sailed.

Yoga Is Not A Workout; Only Stretching

When you perform poses, you stretch your body to its limits and push yourself a little more, but it doesn’t mean it’s not a workout. Performing and holding poses require core engagement and physical strength, which improve coordination and balance. Every muscle of your body gets engaged when you try to achieve a pose and take deep breaths while maintaining the same posture, eventually leaving you sweaty and sore at the end of the practice session.

If you have never tried yoga before but always wanted to try it, wait no more and enroll in daily practice sessions at a well-known yoga studio in Arlington or elsewhere. You will witness positive changes in your physical and mental health within a few weeks or months.
