Winters can be really harsh for dry skin. Your skin loses all the moisture and looks flakey. People who have very dry skin can get issues like flake, crack, or itch even in summer. Well, you can’t change your skin type but following some routines and remedies can help to increase the moisture in your skin.

Avoid hot water for bathing

In winter, people love soaking their bodies in hot water for a long time. It feels good and may also provide relief. But this hot water can be very harmful to your skin. It can take off all the moisture in your body. Use warm water for bathing and limit the shower time to 5-10 minutes. Use an oil-based cleanser for bathing that can remove all dirt from the body. Now use a dry towel to blot your skin gently.

Apply good moisturizer

After bathing, apply moisturizer immediately. You should apply a good moisturizer within a few minutes of drying yourself. You should also apply moisturizer to your face multiple times a day. Whenever you wash your hands, apply lotion. People wash their hands like dozens of times a day. Apply lotion always to avoid dryness.

Use ointment instead of lotion

People mostly use lotion to prevent dryness. But if your skin is very dry, normal lotion may not help a lot. Instead of using a lotion, go for ointment. Look for products that contain ingredients such as jojoba oil, glycerin, lanolin, hyaluronic acid, dimethicone, mineral oil, lactic acid, etc.

Try homeopathy

If your skin is very dry and itchy, you can try homeopathy. In winter, the skin may start bleeding due to dryness. To manage the skin, talk to the best homeopathic doctor in USA. Your homeopath will ask you questions regarding diet, living space, work environment, etc, and then provide a tailored prescription to manage the skin dryness.

Use coconut oil

Coconut has emollient properties that fill the spaces between skin cells and make it smooth. Saturated fatty acids are naturally available in coconut oil that can hydrate and provide good moisture to the skin. Coconut is very good for your skin and purely safe. You can even use coconut oil on sensitive parts like under eye's skin. Some people can get allergic reactions when they mix any other substance with coconut oil. Don’t mix anything and apply coconut oil to your skin daily.

Oatmeal bath

People are using oatmeal for a long time to treat irritated skin. It is one of the best home remedies to treat skin dryness. Oatmeal has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that can help in soothing the skin. This remedy is good if you want to relieve itching. After taking an oatmeal bath, apply moisturizer. You can easily make an oatmeal bath at home. Chop oatmeal and use a food processor to make a powder. Now stir the powder to warm water and take a bath. If you can’t make a powder at home then you can buy oatmeal powder from the market and take a good bath.

Apply Petroleum jelly

People often avoid using petroleum jelly as it seems sticky and oily. But petroleum is one of the best remedies for your skin dryness. In winter, normal moisturizers or lotions can’t provide enough moisture to the skin. Applying petroleum jelly will trap the underneath moisture and prevent skin dryness and white patches. It also helps in healing the skin. Using petroleum jelly can make your skin healthy and shiny.

Take antioxidants and omega-3

Dry skin means your skin is exposed to elements that are damaging the skin cell faster than they repair. To improve your skin condition, you must eat food that contains a good amount of antioxidants and omega-3. Food items that are rich in antioxidants can reduce skin damage from toxins and improve your skin health. You should add food items such as peas, blueberries, tomatoes, beans, carrots, lentils, etc to your diet. To get good omega-3 fatty acids, take salmon, fish oil, etc.

Use a humidifier

You should keep a humidifier at home. It will help to reduce the dryness caused by the heating system. Electric heat takes off all the moisture in the air. Using a humidifier will maintain the moisture in the air to prevent skin dryness.
