Post- impressionist, Dutch painter, Vincent van Gogh was one of art history's most influential artists. He is well-known for his popular works, "The Starry Night" with its sweeping swirls of big yellow stars lighting up the night sky. In a letter to his brother, Theo, van Gogh wrote, "This morning I saw the countryside from my window before sunrise, with nothing but the morning star, which looked very big." Regarding the stars, he said, "Be clearly aware of the stars and infinity on high. Then life seems almost enchanted after all."
Another one of van Gogh's famous paintings is "Wheat Field with Cypress." In another letter to his brother on 26 January 1885, van Gogh said "...If I'm no good now, I won't be any good later either--but if later, then now too. For wheat is wheat, even when it looks like grass at first." This quote from van Gogh encourages having a positive mindset to know that the goal you want to achieve is already happening in the present moment of "now."
In his popular painting, "The Factory at Asnieres," van Gogh depicts the effects of industrialization in the scene of the countryside in Asnieres. On a more personal level, the painter did several self-portraits and even painted his bedroom, which he entitled, "The Bedroom." Van Gogh often corresponded with his brother. In another letter to Theo, van Gogh related how he felt about the experience of painting his bedroom and that his objective was to receive "utter repose."
Although I have no formal training in art, I appreciate the texture, simplicity and complexity of art. Most of my artwork comprise photography, digital art, abstract art, motivational art, historic maps and more. You may view my artwork at
