About the Artist: Ilse Jouette
Ilse (pronounced Ilza) is best known for her portraits of musicians and music themes. Her portraits of musicians capture their energy and spirit, which is why her work is so popular with music lovers everywhere. Many artists paint their favorite musicians, but Ilse can be found back stage with them. She has formed lasting friendships with many and honors their talent through her own art. Her work covers many genres, but Ilse's personal passion is blues and jazz. Her work has been on exhibit in galleries throughout California, in Austin, Chicago, Clarksdale, MS, Memphis, St. Croix and aboard blues cruises in the Caribbean. Her work can be found in the collections of such notables as Eric Clapton, B.B King (see photo with Ilse), Bonnie Raitt, Bruce Willis and Past President Clinton, to name a few. The painting that legendary Ruth Brown gave to President Clinton is in the Clinton Library and was featured on the front page of the New York Times. Ilse's whimsical music cats show her humor and love for felines.
